Busting “WIEIAD” Videos

We’ve all seen them, the influencer trend of filming everything someone particular consumes in a day. This mass trend, however, is normally fake, and leads to negative emotions and comparisons alike.

These videos entail influencers vlogging and showing pictures of foods and beverages they are eating throughout the day. It is important to remember that not everything filmed for content is true. In fact, most influencers only film things that are needed for “show” and leave out clips that will destruct their perfect persona they save for social media.

Some things to take into consideration when you see “WIEIAD” videos that are 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩

  • Putting calories/macros next to each food item
  • Showing a total amount of calories consumed
  • BODY CHECKING 🚩🚩🚩🚩
  • Talking about diet culture
  • Comparing themselves to anyone else (influencers or not)
  • Vlogging a small amount of food, not suitable for anybody’s health.

It is important to remember, not everything you see on social media is real. Influencers fake things for the media over and over. I know it can be difficult to not compare yourselves to the fitness influencers online. It is important to block these creators as they pose unrealistic expectations that may not be suitable for everyone.

How to stay away from these videos

  • Blocking creators who post these videos
  • On a video, select the button that says you are uninterested in that content
  • Restrict your screen time on apps where these videos are populated
  • Following content creators who do not post these videos

One of the biggest red flags you can find in these videos is body checking. Body checking shows up in videos through mirror pics, videos in workout sets, workout montages, and so on. This is one of the driving reasons behind why these videos are so toxic and can easily cause comparisons. Influencers show fake things to seek attention and validation from strangers they don’t even know.
